My 2019 bailed books….
1. Zero Anaphora by Luke Brimblecombe
Just couldn’t get into it. Had an interesting premise, but a no go for me.
2. The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett
I just don’t know if I can read Terry Pratchett’s books. This is the third one that I’ve tried, and while they are definitely entertaining I struggle to get into the story and finish the books. This was a bail for me, but maybe I’ll try again later.
3. Shadows of Time: the Amulet Of Alamin by Felix Alexander
Bailed! I just couldn’t get into this one. I got this book for free from Reading Deals in exchange for a honest review. The file I got was missing chapter 2, but even without that chapter, I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the characters or the situations. Only got through 10%
4. Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis
I love Lewis’ Narnia series, but I should not have gone into this one thinking of those books. This one it definitely not a children’s book. Not that there was anything “adult” about it, it was just written for those over the age of 16 or so. Beautiful depictions and lovely wording, but I still had to bail. I’ll probably come back to this one in the future.
5. Fall Rotten by Eric Serrell
Thank you so much to NetGalley for a free advanced copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
The idea for this novel was fantastic and had me very intrigued. A heist job in the 1940’s? Yes please!
Unfortunately, I found this book very hard to read and in the end had to bail and not finish it. The language was entertaining, but hard to follow. Each character went by 2-3 different names with almost no pattern to it. I had a hard time figuring out who was where at what time.
The quirky language and fast pace of the conversations was both welcome and horrifying. I found myself having to reread many portions of the pages in order to vaguely comprehend what was going on.
I will endeavour to finish this book at a later date, but for now, it’s a “did not finish”, much to my dismay.
6. Civil War by Stuart Moore
Just couldn’t get into this one. I love the Civil War arc, but for now I have to mark this one as DNF. I’ll probably try again at a later date, though.
